Biography
Lou McCurdy is a visual artist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Their day job is working as a Technician for a BA(Hons) Photography course where they support staff and students in all areas from analogue and darkroom work to studio and post production skills. Beyond the campus they run workshops in a variety of photographic skills as a freelancer, both independently and for galleries such as Stills. Outside of their job they have a dedicated practice where they work within self portraiture exploring personal and social themes through their own body or performance. Since 2018 they have been documenting their local queer community, specifically the Edinburgh drag scene, in a dedicated effort to archive their community in this pivotal climate.
McCurdy has worked commercially in the past providing a variety of skills from photography to sound to production and photo/video editing. Their clients are among Schuh, Channel 4, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Gay Times.
They hold a BA(Hons) in Photography.
