The Nun and The Lesbian feel the same pressures of patriarchy and fetishisation, as well as the inherent rejection and isolation that comes with it. Through the series the two existences become one as McCurdy reflects on their alternative life path, the one led to the convent rather than university. It seems the two paths are more parallel than first thought.
Sister Maria has found peace in the habit, though not every nun or visitor to the convent sees her choice in the same light. As best as she might try, some of her Sisters cannot be convinced that the habit will bring them any good, leaving Maria and the convent behind them.
Excerpts from this on going project have been exhibited at Sett Studios for Rolling it Back, May 2024. It has also been featured in Lomography Magazine.
